New Crochet Necklace - Rose Garden

To be honest it took me a while to create this crochet necklace pattern. It all started with making a tiny delicate rose flower, so delicate, that right away I've decided to incorporate into a necklace. Added some simple leaves, and that's what I have now:

Sea of Roses Blanket

I love crocheting blankets lately, and you can probably tell! If you think about it, learning how to make a crochet blanket is quite easy. Even as a beginner, you can pick a quite complicated crochet blanket pattern, practice making a motif using scrap yarn until you are confident making it, and then do it! Take your work to coffee shops, public transport, breaks at work. You can crochet anywhere, until you get enough pieces to arrange a whole blanket.
The sea of roses blanket kept me busy during the last semester as a nursing student. Crocheting is my therapy, it keeps me sane! It is my way to relax, keep my hands busy while I am listening to audio books or infinite amounts of TED talks and such..
So enough rambling, I present to you Sea of Roses Blanket!

Here are Sea of Roses blanket and Blueberry blanket side by side:

I enjoyed making these immensely! I hope you love them too!!

Pinwheel Blanket Free Pattern

This is the pattern I created after I realized how many left over yarn scraps I had just sitting in my basket. This pattern is perfect for using up the yarn you already have, and create a nice lap blanket, throw, or baby blanket.

Consider making a car seat blanket for a newborn baby. This would make a terrific baby shower gift, and so many moms love having a small blanket that just covers the car seat. No more blankets that drag on the floor or fall off the car seat.

The way I wrote this pattern is to enable all levels of crocheters to follow it. There are many step-by step photos, explanations, and instructions. You will not be disappointed.

Purple Hat free pattern

Introducing to you the purple hat!

I've created this hat to support the initiative of BC Women's and Children's Hospital to inform patents of the period of PURPLE crying. Many newborns discharged from the hospital receive a tiny purple hat, with information booklets to remind them that sometimes inconsolable baby crying is normal, and that it is never ok to shake a baby. These purple hats are donated by knitters and crocheters, and may be a fun theme to your usual knit get together with friends.

A few words about the PURPLE Program:

The letters in the word PURPLE describe the properties of normal infant crying that are frustrating:

P for Peak of Crying - Crying peaks at around 2 months, then decreases at around 3 to 5 months;
U for Unexpected - Crying comes and goes unexpectedly, for no apparent reason;
R for Resists Soothing - Crying continues despite all soothing efforts by caregivers;
P for Pain-like Face - Infants look like they are in pain, even when they are not;
L for Long Lasting - Crying can last as much as 5 hours a day, or more;
E for Evening - Crying occurs more in the late afternoon and evening.

Changing behavioural responses to crying, both to less severe and to more intense and inconsolable crying, are very important for SBS prevention. The Period of PURPLE Crying offers the following actions steps for coping:

1. Increase the carry, comfort, walk and talk behaviours with your baby. Unfortunately, what may work one day may not necessarily work the next and what may work for some babies, may not work for others. It is important to keep in mind however, that close contact with your baby may reduce the length of crying bouts by up to 50%;
2. If the crying is very, very, frustrating for you, it is OK to walk away. This step recognizes the caregiver's feelings of frustration and their need for relief. Placing the infant in a safe
place and taking a break for 5 to 10 minutes results in the caregiver not being in direct contact with the infant during times when they are most likely to shake or abuse;
3. Never shake or hurt a baby. This is an important clear reminder that under no circumstances is it okay to shake or hurt an infant
.

Fire Blanket

Meet Fire Blanket!
I don't know if I have the right to say it, but this may be my favorite thing I've ever made. Ok, this and the rose blanket maybe share the first place. I'm in love with how this turned out! You can make it too, and I have a pattern available on etsy and ravelry.
 I used Patons Lace yarn in Bonfire color, and it helps create this ombre effect.
 I've made a pattern with many pictures to guide you through the process, so you can easily make one of your own.
I hope you like it as much as I do,
Tanya

Unisex Reversible Baby Blanket

 After many days and nights of crocheting, taking process pictures, the blanket pattern is finally ready! This one is a reversible blanket with fabric backing (I've used a thin flannel receiving blanket for that).

I'm very happy with the design. The small clean details give it a modern look, which will easily match any nursery. And it is not as difficult to make as it seems. The motifs are made very fast and attached as you go.

The pattern includes many step-by-step pictures! You can find it in my etsy shop.

How big is your stash? (AND FREE PRINTABLE)

I find that I buy about 10 times more yarn than I really need at the moment... Are you guilty of this too?
I don't think I will ever change, but I've made this picture big enough for you to save it and print it out or put as a background on your desktop as a reminder of a guilty pleasure we all have :)
As I look at this picture though, all I want is to buy some more yarn.. Weird..

Enjoy increasing your stash!
