It's been a long time since I posted last, hasn't it? So I decided to start posting again with a free pattern to make up for the time lost.. This is my way of bribing you. :)
The pattern is pretty easy, and I hope you will like it as much as I do. Make it to fit your own phone, as the pattern can be easily changed for custom size (hey, you can even make one for your iPad or laptop).
The phone case is made by working in spiral, and I am warning you that I will be used many words and explanations, aiming this tutorial for beginners, who may be not as familiar with working in spiral.
You'll need: 4 colors of crochet thread #10 (Color "A", "B", "C", "D"), crochet hook US 7 (1.50 mm), button, gauge: 9 stitches & 9 rows equal 1x1” square is single crochet stitches.
(Use worsted weight yarn if you are making a laptop sleeve).
Abbreviations:
ch - chain
hdc - half double crochet
sc - single crochet
sl st - slip stitch
Start with color "A":
Make a foundation chain equal the width of your phone (must be an even number). Write down the number of chain stitches you've made. For the purposes of this pattern, I've made 28 chain stitches, and will be using this number. You may have the same number as well, if not - use your own number of stitches.
Round 1: Ch 2, hdc in next 14 ch, starting with 3rd ch. You will reach the middle of the starting chain. (Check that the amount of hdc equals half of the foundation chain). Drop color "A" and attach a stitch holder to the last hdc.
Attach color "B" to the next chain. Ch 2, hdc in the base chain, hdc in next 13 ch. You will reach the end of the chain. Drop color "B" and attach a stitch holder to the last hdc.
Attach color "C" to the same st as you worked last hdc. Ch 2, hdc in same ch you've attached color "C" . Continue working on the other side of the starting chain. Hdc in 13 next sts. Drop color "C" and attach a stitch holder to the last hdc..
Attach color "D" to the next chain. Ch 2, hdc in the base chain, hdc in next 13 ch. You will reach the end of the chain.
*To make it easy and fun project, you do not need to count stitches from now on. Simply make 1 hdc in each hdc of previous round without any increases or decreases.
Pick up color "A" stitch on stitch holder, hdc in ea hdc of color "B", until you reach stitch holder. Drop color "A" and attach stitch holder to last hdc.
Pick up color "B" stitch on stitch holder, hdc in ea hdc of color "C", until you reach stitch holder. Drop color "B" and attach stitch holder to last hdc.
Pick up color "C" stitch on stitch holder, hdc in ea hdc of color "D", until you reach stitch holder. Drop color "C" and attach stitch holder to last hdc.
* Make sure that you are making the correct size of your phone case. Try it on and see how it fits.
Continue working rounds in the same manner, until the phone case fits your phone.
To make last round smooth, make sure you finish each color above it's starting point. Look at the picture below: orange color ends exactly above where it was started.
For colors "A", "C", "D": sc in next 2 sts, sl st in next 2 sts. Fasten off.
Make a button loop with color "B": Ch 22, hdc in same st as last hdc, sc in next 2 sts, sl st in next 2 sts. Fasten off.
Weave in all loose ends.
You can use a button you have on hand, or make your own! It's easy and fast to make, and it will be a perfect match for the phone case as well.
Ch 4, sl st in 1st ch.
Round 1: Ch 1, 12 sc in round.
